On October 7, a U.S. company agreed to a guilty plea for several violations of the Lacey Act. The importer will have to pay fines for importing illegally harvested timber from areas including forests in far eastern Russia. The government says the illegally harvested oak came from forest that are home to the last 450 Siberian tigers and some of the fewer than 50 remaining Amur leopards.
